gAMEPLAY

Chroma is a color-matching infinite runner game that has been developed by me and my team at Shark Fang Studios for 4 months. The goals of this game are to match the player's color and the walls while collecting coins for cosmetics uses. I also participated in brainstorming sessions on finding the core pillars of the game which was "Color Switch".

This game is only available on Google Play for FREE. We plan to release it on iOS in the upcoming future.

I represent the team as the system designer of Chroma.

My responsibilities have included...

  • Programming

  • Dynamic Difficulty

  • Color Switch System

  • Game Balancing

Finding the core pillars of the game

How we execute this is by doing researches on any mobile game especially games that are simple and addictive. We want users to be able to play our game in their spare time. We make sure that the core gameplay is small and unique, something that the users will understand the flow of the game once they start playing the game. Therefore simplicity is what gives us our core pillar for Chroma.

Dynamic Difficulty

The challenge for this is to have the users understanding the rules of the game just by playing. I start by showing the users how the view of the game is, with the player character and colored walls at first glance. From there, users progress through the game as it will introduce more colored walls and blockers while increasing the game speed to give more challenges to users.

Color Switch System

What I wanted to achieve was to create a modular switch system that has accessibility to check whether the current walls has at least one of the same color as the player color. Furthermore, unlocking more color in the game once the user has progressed further, increasing the flow of the game. With that, I make sure to have multiple player decisions as players will change their color once colliding with the same colored walls.
